US recorded increase in oil and gas rigs—Oklahoma was unchanged

 

The U.S. saw a gain of 5 oil and gas rigs in the past week to reach a total of 548 while Oklahoma’s count was unchanged from the previous week, according to the Baker Hughes Rig Count released Thursday.

The report indicated Oklahoma held steady with a count of 44 rigs throughout the state. The total is still below the 53 rigs reported a year ago.

Nationally, there was a gain of two oil rigs to reach a total of 411 while the number of gas-drilling rigs grew three to 130. The miscellaneous count was unchanged at 7 rigs and the offshore total remained at eleven rigs. Of the nationwide count, 485 of the oil rigs were horizontal drilling while 16 were vertical.

Texas recorded a gain of two to 233 rigs and New Mexico’s count increased by one to 103. The count in North Dakota slipped one to 27 rigs but Louisiana’s total increased one to 40.

The Red Top Rig Report published by the Independent Oil and Gas Service in Wichita reported Kansas added one to reach a total of 19 rigs.

Colorado was unchanged at 11 and Alaska held the same count of 11. California remained at 7 and Ohio was unchanged with 11 rigs while Pennsylvania continued with 18. West Virginia had no change with 8 rigs. Wyoming’s total increased one to 16 rigs and Utah upped its total by one to 14 rigs.

The nation’s rig total remains 42 fewer than a year ago when the count was 590. The decline included a drop of 70 oil rigs but a gain of 26 gas rigs and an increase of 2 miscellaneous rigs.
