US and Oklahoma rig totals dropped in past week

Loss of drilling rigs continued in Oklahoma and across the nation - Oklahoma  Energy Today

 

The nation’s rig count fell by three in the past week and Oklahoma’s loss of drilling activity accounted for two of the rigs.

The latest Baker Hughes Rig Count showed the U.S. total fell to 545 and Oklahoma’s number of active oil and gas rigs declined to 42 from the previous week.

The U.S. number of oil rigs was unchanged and remained at 411 while the number of gas-drilling rigs fell by 3 to 127. The miscellaneous rig count was unchanged at 7 and the nation’s off-shore total increased by 3 to 14.

How other states fared

Oklahoma’s newest rig total of 42 compares to 53 a year ago. The count in Texas fell one to 232 while New Mexico’s total grew by 2 to 101 rigs. North Dakota recorded a drop of one rig to 26 while Louisiana added 3 to reach 43.

Colorado remained at 11 rigs and in Kansas, the Red Top Rig Report indicated a gain of one to reach 20 active rigs. Alaska continued with 11 rigs and California stayed at 7

Ohio was unchanged with 11 rigs and Pennsylvania remained at 18. The count in Utah fell one to 13 and West Virginia saw no change with 8 active rigs. In Wyoming, the number of rigs increased one to 17 total.

This past week’s newest rig count is 38 less than the 583 reported a year ago. The decline included a loss of 61 oil rigs but a gain of 22 gas rigs and an increase of one off-shore drilling rig.
