Five want to be state’s next Corporation Commissioner

Five candidates indicate they want to be the next Oklahoma Corporation Commissioner, one to replace term-limited Commissioner Todd Hiett.

The list was all that remained after three days of filing last week. The makeup is two Republicans and three Democrats.  Rep. Brad Boles was among the first day candidates to file with the Oklahoma Ethics Commission.

The treasurer of his campaign as filed with the Ethics Commission was listed as Jared Head and showed that the Republican legislator from Marlow ended the fourth quarter of 2025 with $475,538.60 in his treasury.

Contributions to what is called Friends of Brad Boles 2026 reflected $21,000 in contributions from Political Action Committees for the fourth quarter 2025 and a total of $43,500 for 2025. Total contributions from individuals totaled $45,950 for the quarter and $215,872 for the year.

Boles had decided last year to become a candidate for the Commission and the contribution list showed money from numerous energy and utility companies.

Boles will face Justin Hornback in the Republican primary, who announced last May that he intended to make a third attempt at winning election to the Corporation Commission. Hornback is from Broken Arrow and a certified welding inspector and a specialist in safety and health.

During his May announcement, Hornback said he intended to build on his previous campaign and reaffirmed his commitment to serving the people of Oklahoma.

“I am running for Oklahoma Corporation Commissioner because I believe I can bring a fresh perspective and a strong work ethic to this important office,” Hornback stated. “I am dedicated to serving the people of Oklahoma, ensuring that our energy resources are developed responsibly, our utilities remain reliable and affordable.”

Hornback was a candidate in the 2024 race to replace term-limited Bob Anthony but lost the primary to Brian Bingman who went on to win the general election and is a sitting Corporation Commission.

Boles and Hornback each filed on day one of the filing period.

On the Democratic side, there are three candidates. One is Harold D. Spradling of Cherokee who has made previous unsuccessful attempts to win election to the Corporation Commission. He is an ordained minister and worked as a psychiatric social worker and school counselor.

It is also Spradling’s third run for the Corporation Commission. State Ethics Commission filings show he ran in the 2018 campaign and spent $5,000. He ran again in 2022 and spent $7,000. He has yet to report the filing of a third campaign committee to raise funds for his attempt.

A second candidate seeking the Democrat nomination is Rhonda Eastman of Spiro.

A third candidate is Donald Anthony Clytus of Oklahoma City. He is the reported founder and Director of Operations at insider Analytics LLD. Clytus leads the company’s branding and strategy efforts.
