Chamber leader says OKC still is energy dominant

Christy Gillenwater

Since the recent announcements that Devon Energy followed by Expand Energy intend to move their headquarters to Houston, a certain trepidation was part of the response of some economic observers.

Not so with Christy Gillenwater, President and CEO of the Greater Oklahoma City Chamber of Commerce.

Expressing her beliefs in the Sunday Oklahoman’s Viewpoints section, she made it clear she believes “Our depth of bench remains strong.”

“Let me be clear: Oklahoma City remains one of the strongest, most competitive and most resilient energy and business environments in America,” stated Gillenwater.

She went on to write that Devon and Expand might be moving their headquarters to Houston, but both also indicated their operational presence will remain in Oklahoma City and Oklahoma.

“The relocation of executive leadership represents a fraction of their employees and does not diminish the depth of talent, infrastructure and expertise that exists here,” she added.

Gillenwater became the President & Chief Executive Officer of the Greater Oklahoma City Chamber on January 5, 2023.

She previously served as President & CEO of the Chattanooga Chamber of Commerce, and prior to that, President & CEO of the Southwest Indiana Chamber and President & CEO of the Greater Bloomington Chamber of Commerce in Indiana.
