
The nation’s oil and gas rig total dropped by 9 in the past week while Oklahoma experienced a decline of 2 rigs, based on the latest Baker Hughes rig count released on Friday.
The company said the U.S. total fell to 543 with a loss of 5 oil rigs, leaving 409 active across the nation’s oil and gas plays. The number of gas-drilling rigs declined by four to 127. The miscellaneous count was unchanged at 7 while the offshore count fell one to eleven rigs.
Oklahoma’s total declined to 44, still less than a year ago when the state’s count was 53 rigs.
Texas also saw a loss of two rigs, leaving 231 still active in the state’s oil and gas plays. New Mexico was unchanged at 102 and North Dakota saw a gain of one to 28 rigs. The count in Louisiana fell one to 39 rigs.
The Red Top Rig Report published in Wichita indicated Kansas rig activity grew by 6 to 18 total rigs. Colorado’s rig activity fell one to 11 rigs while Alaska saw no change with 11, California remained at 7 and Ohio was unchanged at 11 rigs.
The drilling activity in Pennsylvania saw a drop of two rigs to 18 and West Virginia’s rig total remained at 8. Wyoming saw no change with a total of 15 rigs and Utah’s activity declined by two rigs to 13 total.
