Anadarko Basin Drilling Remains Active Despite Slight Rig Decline
Oklahoma’s oil and gas drilling in the Anadarko Basin remains active albeit a decline of one rig in the past week, according to the latest Baker Hughes Rig Count.
The Cana Woodford is where one rig was removed from the drilling list, leaving 21 others still active. The Granite Wash count increased by one to 14 rigs.
Activity Across Oklahoma Plays
The Ardmore Woodford remained at 2 rigs and the Arkoma Woodford total was unchanged with 3 active rigs. The Mississippian continued with no reported drilling activity, according to the Baker Hughes report.
The steady activity across several Oklahoma formations reflects the continued focus of operators on core drilling areas even as weekly rig counts fluctuate slightly due to operational adjustments and shifting capital allocation.
The Anadarko Basin, which stretches across western and central Oklahoma, remains one of the state’s most important oil and gas regions with multiple stacked formations including the Cana Woodford and Granite Wash that continue to attract drilling investment.
National Rig Count Snapshot
Across the country, the Permian Basin drilling was unchanged at 241 rigs while the Williston Basin in the northern part of the U.S. saw a decline of one rig, leaving 26 others still active.
The Eagle Ford of South Texas was unchanged with 43 rigs in the past week while the Haynesville in East Texas and Louisiana saw a gain of one rig, to reach 54.
Drilling in the Marcellus play remained at 27 rigs while the Utica was unchanged with a count of a dozen rigs.
A gain of one rig was recorded in the D-J Basin where the total reached 10 rigs. The Barnett in north Texas remained at one rig.
The latest weekly rig count shows a largely stable national drilling landscape with modest changes across major shale plays as operators continue balancing production targets with commodity price movements and operational efficiencies.
