Colorado was warned this week that its state energy policies will likely not only lead to higher electricity prices but also stop businesses from locating in the state.
The state came from U.S. Energy Secretary Chris Wright as he paid a visit to the state where he once led a Denver-based oil and gas operation before President Trump tapped him to lead the energy department.
Wright urged Colorado leaders to focus on natural gas and nuclear power and said so during a news conference with U.S. Rep. Gab Evans at Xcel Energy’s Fort St. Vrain Generating Station.
He targeted the efforts of Gov. Jared Polis who along with other Democrats pushed for “clean” energy technology in order for the state to reach “net zero” carbon in a few decades. Last year, Polis boasted of the state’s progress in reaching his goal of making Colorado carbon-free by 2030.
Wright criticized those efforts saying state mandates instead stifled oil and gas production as well as expansion of the state’s electric grid.
