BNSF Breaks Ground on North Texas Logistics Center in Gunter
It’s a new dawn for transportation through Grayson County as Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway (BNSF) broke ground Thursday for a North Texas logistics center in Gunter.
“It’s an exciting time to have a facility of this size in our area,” said Grayson County Judge Bruce Dawsey.
Project Moves Forward After Years of Debate
The tug-of-war over the establishment of the BNSF Logistics Center along State Highway 289 north of Gunter has spanned nearly three years.
Thursday morning’s groundbreaking moved the facility one step closer to becoming a reality.
Large-scale logistics hubs such as this one are often viewed as critical infrastructure investments that can improve freight movement efficiency, support regional economic development, and expand rail capacity in growing markets like North Texas.
Rail Infrastructure and Economic Impact
“Obviously, the most important thing we do is bring in rail infrastructure to help the local economy, and do it safely,” said BNSF spokesperson Matt Larseingue. “But we recognize that there’s also needs in the community and ways we can partner through our foundation.”
Rail-served logistics centers can play a significant role in energy and industrial supply chains, including the movement of commodities such as fuel, construction materials, and equipment tied to oil and gas and manufacturing sectors.
The railroad plans to begin operations in a little over a year.
The project signals continued investment in transportation infrastructure across the region, with potential ripple effects for economic activity, freight efficiency, and regional supply chain connectivity.
