The news spread quickly. By Friday morning, rumors circulated that Oklahoma oilman Harold Hamm, the man who founded Continental Resources and became a billionaire, had asked Oklahoma Gov. Kevin Stitt to be appointed U.S. Senator.
Hamm wasted little time, according to reports, in phoning the governor Thursday evening after it was reported President Trump had fired Kristi Noem as Homeland Security Director and replaced her with Sen. Markwayne Mullin, a longtime supporter of the President.
It was the lead topic of discussion on Scott Mitchell talks energy with Jerry Bohnen on Friday and filled columns speculating about who might get the appointment to serve 7 months in office.
Oklahoma Watch was among news groups reporting on the story.
