
The number of oil and gas rigs dotting the landscape of the U.S. increased in the past week, reaching a total of 553, reported Baker Hughes Co. in its latest weekly update.
It showed a gain of 2 rigs including one more oil rig for a total of 412 oil rigs while the number of gas rigs increased one as well, reaching a total of 133. The miscellaneous rig count was unchanged at 8 while the offshore count plummeted by 6 rigs to 12.
Oklahoma’s total declined by one to 44 rigs. A year ago, Baker Hughes reported the state had 51 active rigs.
Texas recorded a drop of 2 to 234 rigs and New Mexico’s count grew one to 101. The count in North Dakota fell one to 24 rigs and Colorado remained at 14.
The Red Top Rig Report based in Wichita reported the Kansas rig count added a rig to reach 12 total.
Alaska’s count was unchanged at 11 and California also saw no change with 7 active rigs. Ohio remained at 11 and Pennsylvania continued with 20 rigs. Utah’s total grew one to 17 rigs. Unchanged were West Virginia at 8 and Wyoming at 17.
The nation’s total count in the past week remained 39 fewer rigs compared to the 592 reported a year ago. The decline included a loss of 75 oil rigs but a gain of 33 gas rigs while the miscellaneous count increased by 3.
