Opponents of a proposed data center in Coweta are celebrating after Project Atlas developer Beale Infrastructure announced it had withdrawn its application with the city.
Some even took to social media to make the post of celebration.
“Beale Infrastructure is committed to being a community-first developer, employing best-in-class practices for digital infrastructure development, and delivering significant economic and community investments through our projects,” said a statement from Beale, reported the Tulsa Flyer.
“While we have made the decision to withdraw our data center project in Coweta,” the statement continued, “we look forward to continuing to build meaningful community investments in other locations in Oklahoma.”
A spokesman for Beale Infrastructure which first proposed the controversial hyperscale data center, said the company would have no further comment on the decision.
Coweta city leaders held a news conference Monday afternoon and City Manager Julie Casteen said the developer did not give a reason for its decision. She said the city had received a telephone call earlier in the day from Beale Infrastructure.
“For our part, Coweta remains committed to open discussion and thoughtful growth in our community, including future economic investments and feedback for our citizens,” Casteen said. “Coweta remains focused on serving the best interests for our citizens, and we look forward to future opportunities for positive investment with strong economic partners.”
The project was proposed to be located on a 270-acre site about 30 miles southeast of Tulsa and Beale had worked with Coweta city leaders since 2024. The Coweta city planning commissioners voted 4-1 in January to deny a rezoning request for Project Atlas. A vote from the City Council was expected to follow, but faced several delays at Beale’s request.
Despite the withdrawal by Beale Infrastructure, the firm still has other data center proposals. One is Project Clydesdale, a $1 billion data center currently under construction in Owasso, and another is Project Mustang proposed in Claremore.
