
A new report from Baker Hughes shows oil and gas drilling remains strong in Oklahoma with an unchanged rig count of 45.
The Rig Count indicated no change where the drilling remained the strongest in the Cana Woodford as the count stayed at 22 active rigs.
The Anadarko Basin is clearly active with drilling. The Granite Wash count of 13 was also unchanged. The Ardmore Woodford remained at 2 active rigs while the count in the Arkoma Woodford continued with a 3-rig count.
Oklahoma’s Mississippian went for another week with no reported drilling or rig activity.
The Anadarko Basin is targeted by Oklahoma City’s Continental Resources which reported at the end of 2025 that 38% of its total proved reserves and 27% of its average daily Boe production in the fourth quarter came from the Basin.
Continental reported its production in the Anadarko Basin averaged 129,965 Boe per day during the fourth quarter of 2025, up 3% compared to the 2024 fourth quarter. It participated in the drilling and completion of 62 gross (40 net) wells in the Anadarko Basin during 2025 compared to 95 gross (45 net) wells in 2024.
Continental’s proved reserves in the Anadarko Basin as of December 31, 2025 totaled 644 MMBoe, a decrease of 12% compared to December 31, 2024. The inventory of proved undeveloped drilling locations in the Anadarko Basin totaled 208 gross (141 net) wells as of December 31, 2025.
The U.S. rig total grew by one to 551 oil and gas rigs and most were in the Permian Basin where the count increased one to 241 in West Texas and Southeast New Mexico.
The count in the Haynesville increased by one to 53 and the Eagle Ford play saw a gain of 3 rigs for a total of 43. The Marcellus recorded a gain of one to reach 27 and the Williston of Montana and North Dakota saw a drop of one to 27 rigs.
The D-J Niobrara remained at 9 rigs and there was a decline of 2 rigs, leaving 12 active in the Utica. The Barnett continued for another week with one rig.
