Winter Storm Uri lawsuits might go to trial later this year

As we’ve been reporting on the pace of the state lawsuits filed against natural gas marketers following the 2021 winter storm Uri, it might be later this year when one of the suits in Osage County District court actually goes to trial.

If so, that will make it 5 years since the storm sent Oklahoma natural gas prices to a record high in the U.S. of more than $1,200 MMBtu. It will also be two years after Attorney General Gentner Drummond carried out the threatened promise to collect billions of dollars from what he called market manipulation.

Since the filing of the lawsuits, the pace has been slow as attorneys battled back and forth with one filing after another and decisions by the district judge assigned the case.

The latest squabble, reported Oklahoma Watch, focuses on efforts by the defendants, ET Gathering and Processing LLC and Symmetry Energy Solutions LLC concerning the production of records in the discovery phase.

“Osage County District Judge Stuart Tate twice ruled against the attorney general’s office for dragging its feet in providing evidence to ET Gathering and Processing backing up the state’s complaints of market manipulation,” reported Oklahoma Watch.
