Oklahoma Rig Count Holds Steady at 46

Oklahoma rig numbers remain constant

The nation saw a gain in its number of oil and gas rigs while Oklahoma’s count was unchanged in the past week, according to the latest rig count released by the Baker Hughes Co.

Oklahoma held steady with a count of 46 active rigs. Nationally, there was an increase of 5 rigs reaching a total of 551. The gain included one oil rig for a total of 412 while the number of gas drilling rigs grew by 5 for a total of 130. The miscellaneous count dropped one to 19 while the offshore count increased two to reach 16.

State-by-State Rig Activity

As Oklahoma remained at 46 rigs, Texas saw a gain of 6 to reach 232. New Mexico’s count dropped one to 101 and North Dakota was unchanged at 27. Colorado remained at 14 rigs. The Red Top Rig Report showed the total in Kansas fell one to 13 active rigs.

Alaska stayed at 9 rigs and California’s total fell one to 7. Ohio was unchanged at 13. Also unchanged were Pennsylvania at 19, Utah at 16, West Virginia at 7 and Wyoming at 16 rigs.

Year-Over-Year Comparison

Compared to a year ago, the U.S. rig count is 35 down from 586. The decline in the past year included a loss of 68 oil rigs while the number of gas rigs increased by 30. The miscellaneous count increased 3.
