Oklahoma rig numbers fall while US total is unchanged

The number of oil and gas rigs in the U.S. was unchanged in the most recent reporting period by Baker Hughes Co. but it indicated Oklahoma saw a decline of one to 45 rigs.

Baker Hughes showed Oklahoma’s count declined to 45 compared to the previous week.

Nationally, the count remained at 551. The number of oil drilling rigs declined three to 409 while the total in gas rigs grew by three to 133. The miscellaneous count was unchanged at 9 while the offshore total increased one to 17.

While Oklahoma recorded a decline of one, Texas saw a decline of three to 229 rigs. North Dakota saw a drop of one to 26 rigs while New Mexico’s count increased by one to 102. Louisiana recorded an increase of two rigs to 41.

The Red Top Rig report indicated Kansas added three rigs for a total of 14. Alaska was unchanged at 9 and California remained at 7 total rigs. Ohio stayed at 23 and Pennsylvania added one to reach 20 rigs. Utah remained at 16 and West Virginia continued with 7 rigs. Wyoming’s total increased one to 17.

The U.S. total of 551 is still 37 below the 588 reported one year ago. In the past 12 months, the number of oil rigs declined by 73 while the number of gas rigs increased 32 and the miscellaneous count grew by three.
