Disappointing yes. Discouraging….maybe not.
It’s the suggestion from Oklahoma Gov. Kevin Stitt to the surprising decisions by Devon Energy and Expand Energy to move headquarters to Houston, Texas.
Interviewed recently by KOCO TV News, he explained his reaction.
“When you hear about things like that, it’s disappointing. But that’s why it’s important to have that next generation of entrepreneurs that are starting things and are building here in our state. Because you’re always going to have a little bit of attrition, but overall Oklahoma is winning way more than we’re losing,” Stitt said.
Devon Energy leaders said despite their decision to move headquarters from the Devon Energy Center in downtown Oklahoma City to Houston, they promised the company would still maintain what they called a “significant” presence in Oklahoma City.
No such public assurances were made by leadership of Expand Energy.
