Wichita Falls, Texas is getting a large data center to be built by Skybox, a data center builder and operator. Skybox has other projects in Houston, Round Rock, and San Angelo, Texas, and in Santa Clara, California.
The 225-acre site will include a first building of 150,000 square feet in size but eventually the company plans up to seven buildings on what it calls PowerCampus Texas. The first structure could be operational in 2028. According to Skybox’s website, the project is being developed in collaboration with Blue Owl.
The Power Campus website explained, “This campus is ideally located in Wichita Falls with convenient access to major transportation corridors, including I-44 and US-287, offering strong regional connectivity. Positioned approximately two hours from both the Dallas–Fort Worth Metroplex and Oklahoma City, the site provides strategic access to two major markets while benefiting from a lower-cost, less congested environment.”
The company has partnered with industrial real estate firm Prologis for multiple campuses in Texas (the Hutto and Pflugerville areas of Austin, and Dallas), as well as Virginia and Illinois (Chicago, since sold to HMC Capital). The company also previously sold a data center in Houston to Element Critical.
Two other data center projects have previously been planned in Wichita Falls, but the status of both is unclear.
Another project is being considered in Wichita Falls. Last month, an application was filed to rezone 37 acres at 2100 & 2226 Airport Drive to develop a 98-acre data center campus in the city. Local attorney Brad Altman is looking to develop up to nine buildings totaling approximately 1.35 million square feet (125,419 sqm). The planning and zoning commission has recommended approval, but city councilors tabled the rezoning request at the February 3 meeting.
