Taiwan-based firm launches first North American manufacturing site
Apogee Power, a Taiwan-based energy technology and advanced battery manufacturer, has selected Liberal, Kansas, as the location for its first U.S. manufacturing and assembly facility — marking a major expansion into the North American energy storage market.
The new facility, located at 1600 W. Pancake Blvd. in Liberal’s industrial corridor, will support the assembly, testing, and distribution of lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery systems designed for commercial, industrial, and grid-scale energy storage applications across the United States.
First U.S. manufacturing footprint
The Liberal project represents Apogee’s first manufacturing presence in the United States and reflects a long-term strategy to serve American customers from a centralized, cost-competitive location.
“Establishing a U.S. manufacturing footprint is a critical step in Apogee’s global growth strategy,” said Wen Lin, CEO of Apogee Power. “Liberal offers the infrastructure, workforce, and community partnership we were looking for. This location allows us to serve U.S. customers more efficiently while building a durable, long-term presence in the American market.”

Facility details and production plans
The facility will initially occupy approximately 20,000 square feet, with space available for future expansion as demand grows. Planned operations include:
-
Light manufacturing and system integration
-
Battery testing and quality control
-
Logistics and distribution
The site is designed to scale production as market conditions evolve, particularly as demand grows for LFP battery technology, which is increasingly favored for its safety, durability, and cost efficiency in stationary energy storage.
Apogee expects the Liberal facility to begin operations in summer 2026.
Strategic location drives site selection
Company officials cited several factors behind the decision to locate in southwest Kansas, including:
-
Central U.S. location
-
Proximity to major highway and rail networks
-
Available industrial facilities
-
Reliable power infrastructure
-
Access to a workforce experienced in manufacturing and energy operations
“Attracting a company that produces advanced battery solutions highlights Kansas’ competitiveness in today’s energy technology economy,” said Joshua Jefferson, Deputy Secretary of the Kansas Department of Commerce.
Local and state leaders welcome investment
Local officials emphasized the collaborative effort that helped secure the project.
“This investment builds on our region’s strengths in energy, logistics, and advanced manufacturing,” said Eli Svaty, Executive Director of the Seward County Development Corporation. “It also signals that global technology companies see value in smaller, execution-focused communities.”
Liberal City Manager Scarlette Diseker said the city was honored by Apogee’s selection, while Mayor Jose Lara noted that local leaders worked closely with state and regional partners to showcase Liberal’s competitive advantages.
Jobs and economic impact
Apogee anticipates hiring approximately 30 employees during the initial phase of operations, with plans to expand to up to 70 jobs as production ramps up.
The project was supported by the Seward County Development Corporation, the City of Liberal, the Kansas Department of Commerce, and regional partners who assisted with site evaluation, regulatory coordination, and facility preparation.
