The Oklahoma Department of Transportation (ODOT) opened the new year with multiple major construction efforts underway, including a $76 million interchange improvement project on Interstate 40 in Clinton. Transportation Commissioners recently received an update on the Clinton project, which ODOT is delivering through a partnership with the City of Clinton and will stretch over the next two years.

The work targets two interchanges in Clinton — Gary Blvd. and Neptune Dr./10th Street — and includes the replacement of four bridges. ODOT expects the improvements to modernize aging infrastructure, support regional traffic, and better position the corridor for long-term interstate travel and economic activity.

Clinton Project Rebuilds Two I-40 Interchanges and Four Bridges

ODOT confirmed the Clinton project will:

  • Reconstruct and rehabilitate the interchanges at Gary Blvd. and Neptune Dr./10th Street

  • Replace four bridges during the next two years

  • Support the traffic patterns and future needs of one of western Oklahoma’s busiest highway corridors

The commission update emphasized the project’s scope and the multi-year timeline as crews move through staging and bridge replacement work.

US-70 Roosevelt Bridge Enters Contracting Phase

ODOT also reported progress on the US-70 Roosevelt bridge replacement. The agency has started the first stage of the contracting process, and it plans to select a team in the spring that will continue under contract with ODOT to deliver final design and construction services.

ODOT will deliver the Roosevelt bridge project using Modified Progressive Design Build, marking the first time the agency has used this method in Oklahoma. ODOT expects construction to begin later this year, after the design and delivery team is selected.

Commission Receives National Concrete Awards From ACPA

At the Oklahoma Transportation Commission meeting Monday, Jan. 5, the commission received two national awards from the American Concrete Pavement Association (ACPA) for Excellence in Concrete Paving. The ACPA, the national trade association for the concrete pavement industry, recognizes winners across multiple categories based on evaluation by concrete pavement professionals.

ODOT District 3 earned:

  • Gold in the Divided Highways – Rural category

  • Best in Show Innovation award

Both awards recognized an I-35 reconstruction project in Wynnewood, Garvin County.

ODOT shared the awards with:

  • Duit Construction Co.

  • MacArthur Associated Consultants

Wynnewood I-35 Project Recycled 100% of Concrete

ODOT said the Wynnewood project recycled 100% of the existing concrete, eliminating the need to haul material off-site to a landfill. Crews also used an overhead conveyor system that reduced construction traffic and improved safety while maintaining two lanes of traffic through the work zone.

ODOT Executive Director Tim Gatz praised both the partnerships and the safety results tied to the innovation.

“It is gratifying to have the partnerships that we do with our contractors and the industry and to see outcomes like this,” Gatz said. “I do want to add extra emphasis to the impact that the innovation in the use of the conveyor had on the traveling public because reducing the dangers that crews and the traveling public encounter every day in work zones is extremely critical to us.”

ODOT Reminds Drivers to Watch for Black Ice

Although recent weather has been favorable, Gatz reminded commissioners and the public that Oklahoma’s winter months demand weather awareness. He said ODOT crews remain ready statewide for inclement weather, but drivers play a key role in keeping roadways safe.

ODOT urged motorists to:

  • Monitor forecasts closely

  • Stay home when possible during precipitation events

  • Watch for black ice, which can appear like wet pavement

  • Remember that bridges freeze first

  • Check road conditions using the Drive Oklahoma app

No December Bid Lettings; Next Openings Set for Jan. 15 and 22

ODOT reported that, as is customary around the holidays, it did not put new road and bridge construction projects out to bid in December for consideration at the January meeting.

The next bid openings are scheduled for:

  • January 15, 2026

  • January 22, 2026

The nine-member Oklahoma Transportation Commission, appointed by the governor and legislative leadership, awards contracts monthly for road and bridge construction and oversees statewide transportation development.

The next commission meeting is scheduled for 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 2, and will be available to view live via Ustream. Past meetings remain available on YouTube and vimeo.com/odot.
