OG&E Appoints John Laws as Chief Commercial Officer
Utility creates new Commercial Division to support growth and customers
Oklahoma Gas & Electric (OG&E) announced the creation of a new Commercial Division and the appointment of John Laws as Chief Commercial Officer, a move the utility says will help deliver more personalized service, innovative energy solutions, and support growing electricity demand across Oklahoma and western Arkansas.
OG&E said the new organizational structure is designed to strengthen customer engagement while maintaining some of the lowest electric rates in the nation.
New Commercial Division focuses on customers and planning
The newly formed Commercial Division will consolidate several key functions under one leadership structure, including Customer Engagement, Systems Planning, and Sales. OG&E said the change positions the utility to better serve residential, commercial, and industrial customers as demand increases across multiple sectors.
OG&E Chairman, President and CEO Sean Trauschke said the new division reflects the company’s long-term strategy to balance growth, reliability, and affordability.
“John’s leadership of the new Commercial organization will create innovative energy solutions for our customers,” Trauschke said. “His experience and vision will lead transformative programs and personalized services to strengthen the customer experience and deliver reliable energy at low costs.”
Growing demand drives organizational change
OG&E noted that electricity demand is expected to rise significantly across its service territory, driven by expansion in manufacturing, agriculture, medical services, defense, and technology.
Laws said the timing presents a major opportunity for the region.
“Demand for electricity is expected to increase substantially in Oklahoma and western Arkansas across many sectors,” Laws said. “This is a transformational opportunity for our communities, and OG&E is positioned to meet the moment. I’m excited to join the team and hit the ground running.”
John Laws brings finance, energy, and public-sector experience
Laws brings extensive leadership experience to the newly created role, with a background spanning corporate finance, strategic planning, and energy operations.
He holds a Bachelor of Business Administration from the University of Oklahoma and a Master of Business Administration from the McCombs School of Business at The University of Texas at Austin.
His career includes senior leadership roles at OGE Energy Corp., service as Chief Financial Officer of Enable Midstream Partners, and experience as Secretary of Budget for the State of Oklahoma. OG&E said that blend of private-sector and public-sector leadership uniquely positions Laws to guide customer-focused strategies during a period of rapid energy system change.
Utility emphasizes innovation and customer value
In its announcement, OG&E described the formation of the Commercial Division as a milestone in its broader evolution.
“The formation of this Commercial organization marks a significant milestone in OG&E’s journey to serve customers and communities with forward-thinking solutions,” the company stated.
OG&E serves approximately 900,000 customers across Oklahoma and western Arkansas and continues to invest in grid modernization, generation resources, and customer-facing programs to meet future demand.
