One thing is clear following a Monday meeting in Luther….many of the residents have serious and heart-felt opposition to a proposed data center we first reported about last year.
As News 9 TV reported, residents gathered to coordinate their opposition to the proposed data center that would cover about 400 acres between North Triple X Road and North Luther Road. Residents say they are worried that the projects will use excess water and that chemicals from the project could pollute water sources in the area. They are also concerned about who will be responsible for funding the bill, reported News 9.
Beltline Energy, based in Georgia, made known its plans last year to consider development near the eastern Oklahoma County town.
KOCO TV News reported also that residents used the meeting to voice opposition to a second project, a 40-mile transmission line proposed from Luther to Piedmont. The project, according to Transource, the firm proposing the line, is not part of the data center effort.
“This is not tied to a data center or to support any kind of generation. It’s purely to address that congestion in central Oklahoma on the existing grid,” Michael Harris, project outreach specialist for Transource, said.
