Oklahoma Utilities Urge Winter Storm Preparations Ahead of Snow, Ice
As a winter storm approaches Oklahoma, with forecasts calling for several inches of snow and ice and the potential for power outages, the state’s two largest electric utilities — Oklahoma Gas & Electric (OG&E), Oklahoma Natural Gas Co. and Public Service Company of Oklahoma (PSO) — are urging customers to prepare.
The three utilities say they are closely monitoring weather conditions and have taken steps to ensure reliable electric service while encouraging customers to review emergency plans and cold-weather safety precautions.

OG&E, PSO Monitor Grid Conditions
OG&E said it has completed seasonal preparations at its power plants and has adequate fuel supplies in place.
“We are taking all necessary precautions to deliver reliable service,” OG&E stated in its advisory. “Many of OG&E’s preparations for extreme winter weather for power plants were complete by the end of October 2025, and we have both coal and natural gas fuel for the upcoming cold snap.”
The utility added that all available generating units are operating and ready to support the electric grid during the storm.
PSO also emphasized readiness across its system.
“We’re always monitoring weather conditions and preparing our system to handle whatever Oklahoma’s winter might bring,” said Dwayne Apple, PSO Vice President of Distribution Operations. “Now is a great time to review your emergency plans, check your supplies, and make sure your loved ones and neighbors are ready too.”
OG&E Cold Weather Safety Tips
OG&E provided the following tips to help customers prepare for winter weather:
-
Stay weather aware: Check road conditions before traveling and stay home if possible. Sign up for alerts at OGE.com/alerts.
-
Dress for the weather: Wear layers, waterproof and insulated boots, gloves or mittens, and a hat.
-
Gather emergency supplies: Stock flashlights, bottled water, portable chargers, and batteries.
-
Have a safety plan: Check on vulnerable family members, neighbors, and pets. If you rely on electricity for medical devices, know your options. Find warming stations at OGE.com/WarmingStations.
-
Stay safe: While outages are not anticipated, customers can report outages through the OG&E app, myOGEalerts, or OGE.com/outage. Stay away from downed power lines and report them at 800-522-6870
Oklahoma Natural Gas advised its customers to monitor their thermostats.

PSO Winter Weather Preparedness Guidance
PSO offered similar guidance for customers ahead of the storm:
-
Build an emergency kit with non-perishable food, bottled water, flashlights, batteries, blankets, first-aid supplies, medications, a battery-powered radio, and a phone charging bank.
-
Customers who rely on life-supporting medical equipment should have a backup power source and an alternate plan in case of an outage.
-
Treat all downed power lines as dangerous. Stay away and call 911 or PSO immediately.
-
Use space heaters safely by placing them on flat surfaces, keeping them away from flammable materials, and never leaving them unattended. Ensure smoke and carbon monoxide detectors are working properly.
