Drought conditions continue slow creep upward in Oklahoma

The drought is slowly growing across Oklahoma as the state continues with very little moisture including snowfall.

The latest Drought Monitor showed a slight decrease in the areas of the state where there is no reported dry conditions. The Panhandle and the northwest part of the state are considered to be void of dry conditions.

However, there were slight increases in abnormally dry and extreme drought conditions, mainly in southwestern and southern Oklahoma.

The extreme drought conditions increased from 6.92% reported the previous week to 7.44% in the past week. There was a decline in the amount of land considered to be in a “moderate” drought. An increase was reported for areas classified as “abnormally dry”, growing from 80.85% to 82.14%.
