Depew Fire Department celebrates gas generator installation

The Depew Fire Department marked a significant step forward in its emergency response capabilities with the installation of a new natural gas-powered generator, made possible through a partnership with Oklahoma Natural Gas and Generator Supercenter of Oklahoma.

“This generator is more than equipment – it’s an upgrade the community we serve deserves,” said Ashley Siddiki, Fire Chief of the Depew Fire Department. “When severe weather or disasters strike, we are frequently faced with power outages. This generator ensures our station remains fully operational, so we can coordinate emergency response for our community without interruption or delay.”

A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held at the Depew Fire Station to mark the occasion. The generator enhances the station’s role as a critical hub for fire services, a warming center for local residents and an emergency operations/disaster response center for the community. Generator Supercenter of Oklahoma (GSC) and Oklahoma Natural Gas played a pivotal role in equipping the Depew Fire Department with a new backup power system, providing uninterrupted emergency response and community safety during severe weather.

The generator installation was handled by GSC and powered by the energy provided by Oklahoma Natural Gas.

Christina Harlow-Nolan of the Depew Ladies Auxiliary Club supported the effort by securing a grant from East Central Cooperative to assist with ongoing maintenance.

“The generator is a game-changer for our fire department and our residents,” said Harlow-Nolan. “It allows us to respond to emergencies without interruption and provide a safe space for our community during severe weather or disasters.”

The event was attended by representatives from the Depew Fire Department, Oklahoma Natural Gas, Generator Supercenter of Oklahoma, state legislators and local leaders. Attendees included Oklahoma Speaker of the House Kyle Hilbert (a Depew native), State Senator Bryan Logan, Depew Mayor Dionna Marker and East Central Electric Cooperative’s Lylah Sparks.

Oklahoma Natural Gas operations and community relations employees were also in attendance, as part of its ongoing commitment to community safety and reliable energy. The company’s investment in natural gas infrastructure helps communities withstand severe weather events and maintain essential services.

Natural gas is recognized for its reliability, especially during emergencies, making it an ideal energy source for backup power systems.

“Supporting the Depew Fire Department reflects our unwavering commitment to community safety,” Zach Wilmott, Oklahoma Natural Gas manager of field operations. “During emergencies, dependable energy isn’t just important, it’s critical. With this generator, the fire department can respond without interruption, protect lives and serve as a safe haven for residents when it matters most.”

Generator Supercenter of Oklahoma, a longtime provider of residential and commercial standby power solutions, donated the generator, supplies and equipment for the project. The company, which is known for its expertise in delivering reliable backup power systems, had five employees on hand for the event.

“We believe in powering peace of mind,” said Joseph Zagorodny, Generator Supercenter’s chief operating officer. “Partnering with Oklahoma Natural Gas to make this possible for Depew is an honor and will really help this tight-knit community stay safe.”

The Depew Fire Department has served the community for decades, providing essential fire protection and emergency services. Its role as a disaster response center underscores its importance in a town that values preparedness and neighborly support.
