The Oklahoma City–based natural gas producer said its Board of Managers has appointed Brooks M. Shughart, currently President and Chief Financial Officer, to succeed Fisher as Chief Executive Officer beginning on the retirement date. Shughart will continue serving as CFO while the company finalizes a search for a successor to that role.

The transition follows what Ascent described as a comprehensive succession planning process overseen by the Board of Managers and its Compensation Committee.

Fisher to Remain Advisor Through 2026

Fisher, who has led Ascent Resources for more than a decade, will continue serving as Chairman and CEO through the end of January to ensure a smooth leadership handoff. After stepping down, he will remain involved with the company as a Special Advisor to executive management and the Board through December 31, 2026.

“It has been an honor to lead Ascent over the last 11 years,” Fisher said. “I believe the company has some of the best assets and the best people in the industry, and I am confident our experienced leadership team will take Ascent to even greater achievements in the future.”

Fisher added that the transition will allow him to spend more time focusing on family and personal interests while continuing to support the company during the transition period.

Board Expresses Confidence in New CEO

Alex T. Krueger, Chairman of Ascent’s Compensation Committee, credited Fisher with shaping the company’s growth and stability.

“Ascent Resources has benefited greatly from Jeff’s vision and leadership over the past 11 years,” Krueger said. “We are grateful for his commitment to a thoughtful transition and are fully confident that Brooks and the rest of the executive team will continue to drive value creation and growth.”

Shughart Brings Deep Experience to CEO Role

Shughart has more than a decade of experience with Ascent, including service on the Board of Managers, and most recently held dual roles as President and CFO. He has already assumed responsibility for operations and midstream activities and will now oversee all remaining corporate functions.

“I am honored and excited to take on the role of Chief Executive Officer of Ascent Resources,” Shughart said. “Working side-by-side with Jeff for many years has given me valuable insights. He has been an exceptional leader, and I look forward to leading the fantastic Ascent team.”

Owners Support Long-Term Strategy

John T. Raymond, Vice Chairman of the Board of Managers, said Ascent’s ownership group fully supports the leadership change.

“Ascent’s owners appreciate the work Jeff and Brooks have done to position the company for success both operationally and financially,” Raymond said. “The Board and key equity owners have the utmost confidence in Brooks’ ability to lead the company forward.”
