Sometime early this year, Pioneer Telephone Cooperative anticipates completion of a $7 million, 200-mile fiber line that it started in 2024 in southwestern Oklahoma.

The company started working on the fiber optics line in late 2024 around the Hollis area, a project involving 218-miles. The Lawton Constitution reported that as of last week, the project was more than 50% complete. Once completed, some 1,300 subscribers in Hollis and Gould will have access to high-speed internet, according to Blake Callaham, general manager at Pioneer Telephone Cooperative.

“I’ll be happy to get that completed and convert all those Hollis customers in that area over to fiber,” Callaham said in an interview with the Lawton Constitution.

Part of the funding for the $7 million project came from a program administered by the Federal Communications Commission, and Pioneer supplied the remaining funds.
