
While the nation’s oil and gas rig numbers declined in the past week, including a loss of 8 oil rigs, the activity in Oklahoma’s energy plays saw a gain to reach a total of 42 rigs.
Baker Hughes reported Oklahoma’s gain of one rig was recorded in the Granite Wash where the count grew from 14 to 15 rigs. The state’s other oil and gas plays were unchanged including a count of 17 in the Cana Woodford.
The Ardmore Woodford was unchanged with 4 active rigs while the Arkoma Woodford continued with one rig. The Mississippian remained at one active rig, but the Baker Hughes report did not reflect whether it was an oil drilling or gas-drilling rig.
Around the nation, the Permian Basin, the country’s most active energy play, recorded a loss of 3 rigs, leaving 246 still active. The play includes west Texas and southeast New Mexico.

The count in the Haynesville, located in East Texas and Louisiana, fell by 3 to 42. The Eagle Ford in South Texas was unchanged with 39 rigs.
The D-J Niobrara count fell by one to 7 rigs. The Marcellus remained at 24 rigs and the Utica was unchanged from last week with a total of 15 rigs. The Williston in North Dakota remained at 29 rigs.
