Increased drilling in Oklahoma’s Granite Wash

Increased oil and gas drilling has been seen in Oklahoma’s Granite Wash play, the play that also extends into parts of the Texas Panhandle.

The latest Baker Hughes Rig Count showed a gain of 2 rigs in the Wash, reaching a total of 16. The second of the most active plays, the Cana Woodford remained strong with 17 reported rigs and no change from the previous week.

The Ardmore Woodford in southern Oklahoma saw an increase of one rig to reach a total of 4 active oil and gas drilling operations. The Arkoma Woodford count fell one, leaving only one active rig in the play. The Mississippian continued with one active drilling rig.

Elsewhere around the U.S., the Permian Basin, the nation’s most active shale play, recorded a decline of 2 rigs, leaving 249 still in pursuit of more oil and gas production. The Haynesville in eastern Texas and Louisiana saw an increase of 4 rigs to reach 45 total. The Eagle Ford, the South Texas play, grew one more rig in the past week to reach 39.

The Williston in North Dakota was unchanged at 29 rigs. The activity in the Utica play increased one to 15 total rigs. The Marcellus, stretching from northern West Virginia and through Pennsylvania and into southern New York, remained at a total of 24 rigs.

The D-J Niobrara count slipped by one to 8.
