Icy roads and highways in parts of Oklahoma

WINTER WEATHER: Highway Conditions Alert 12-4-25 as of 11 a.m.

Oklahoma Department of Transportation crews are spot treating some slick spots on highways, bridges and elevated surfaces in Cleveland, Okfuskee and Hughes counties. Areas in western Oklahoma and in the Oklahoma City metro are reporting wet to dry conditions, including I-40 from Texas to Oklahoma City. Crews in Eastern Oklahoma are monitoring wet roads.

Drivers are encouraged to watch weather reports into the evening. If temperatures dip, the melted snow could turn into black ice which appears wet but is a thin layer of ice. Caution should be used into the evening rush hour and overnight. Crews will be monitoring conditions and will treat as long as necessary.

REMEMBER during snowy and icy conditions, motorists are asked to:

  • Drive slowly and stay alert. Allow extra space between vehicles.
  • Don’t crowd the plows. Do not pass road clearing equipment and stay at least 200 feet back, or at least four to five school bus lengths. Crews need room to maneuver and can engage plowing or spreading materials without notice.
  • Be aware of “black ice,” which looks wet on the roadway but is a thin layer of ice, especially early morning and overnight.
  • Check weather reports, plan ahead and allow extra time in reaching destinations.

NOTE: This is the last advisory for this event unless conditions change
