Extreme weather strains grid reliability rules
Extreme weather is making the grid more prone to outages — and now FirstEnergy’s three Ohio utilities want more leeway on their reliability requirements.
Put simply, FirstEnergy is asking the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio to let Cleveland Electric Illuminating Co., Ohio Edison, and Toledo Edison take longer to restore power when the lights go out.
Basden Steel expanding to northeast Arkansas
Texas-based Basden Steel, a structural steel fabrication company, is expanding to Marked Tree in northeast Arkansas.
The company closed on a 70-acre property in Poinsett County Nov. 21. The new operation is expected to bring high-value job opportunities to the region, with long-term plans to expand as market conditions allow.

The Trump administration has removed any mention of renewable energy from the name of Colorado’s federal clean energy lab in Golden.
The name has been changed from the National Renewable Energy Laboratory to the National Laboratory of the Rockies.

Exxon in talks over Lukoil’s Iraqi oil stake
Exxon is reported to be in talks with Iraq about buying Lukoil’s stake in the giant West Qurna 2 oil field.
U.S. sanctions against Russia prompted Lukoil to try and sell assets. West Qurna 2 is the company’s largest foreign asset.
