
Western Oklahoma remains the center of the state’s oil and gas rig activity with a gain of one rig over the past week, according to the most recent Baker Hughes Rig Count.
The total grew to 42 rigs, two shy of the 44 rigs active in Oklahoma one year ago.
The Cana Woodford is still the most active play in the state despite a drop of one rig over the past week. Sixteen rigs are still drilling in the region.
The Granite Wash is second most active and saw a gain of 2 rigs to reach 14 drilling for gas and oil.

The Ardmore Woodford count remained at 3 rigs while the Arkoma Woodford also saw no change in drilling activity with a total of 2 rigs.
The Mississippian count remained at one rig.
Of the nation’s active shale plays, the Permian Basin count grew one to 254 rigs in West Texas and Southeast New Mexico. The Williston, mostly in North Dakota, was unchanged at 29 rigs.
The D-J Basin in Colorado and southern Wyoming dropped one to 9 rigs while the Eagle Ford of South Texas remained at 41 rigs. The Haynesville in East Texas and Louisiana was unchanged at 41 rigs. The Marcellus count increased one to 24 rigs. The Utica remained at 14 rigs. The Barnett play continued with 2 rigs.
The U.S. total grew by 5 rigs over the past week to reach a total of 554.
