Where Oklahoma’s rig numbers dropped

Even as Oklahoma recorded a loss of 3 oil and gas rigs over the past week, some of the state’s plays still saw a gain in drilling activity, based on the latest Rig Count from the Baker Hughes Co.

The most active play, the Cana Woodward, recorded a gain of one to reach 20 rigs. A loss of 2 rigs was recorded in the Granite Wash, the play that also extends into the Texas Panhandle. Baker Hughes reported it had 13 rigs as of the list released on Friday.

A surprise addition of 2 rigs was recorded in the Ardmore Woodford where the total reached 3. The Arkoma Woodford was unchanged with one reported rig. The Mississippian, which reaches from northern Oklahoma into southern Kansas, continued with no reported rig activity, according to Baker Hughes.

Around the nation, the Permian Basin count fell by one to 250 rigs in the play that extends from west Texas into southeast New Mexico. The Williston count grew by one to a total of 30 rigs. The Eagle Ford total slipped one to 44 and the Haynesille count increased by two to 41 rigs. The Marcellus play remained at 23 and the Utica was unchanged at 14.

The Barnett play of north Texas stayed at one rig.
