Surprising growth in some of Oklahoma’s oil and gas plays was recorded in the most recent rig count released by the Baker Hughes Co.
Void of any drilling activity for months, the Mississippian play, which extends from northern Oklahoma into southern Kansas, recorded its first rig. Details of where the rig is located in the middle of exploration were not revealed by Baker Hughes.
Elsewhere, Oklahoma’s Cana Woodford added another rig to reach a total of 21. The Granite Wash, the play that extends from Oklahoma into the Texas Panhandle, also saw an increase of one rig to reach a total of 14 rigs.
The Arkoma Woodford count grew by one to reach 2 rigs while the Ardmore Woodford remained at 3 rigs.
The nation’s Permian Basin count grew by one to 251 rigs. The Williston in North Dakota and Montana remained at 30 rigs. The Eagle Ford was unchanged at 44 and the Haynesville saw no change with 41 active rigs. The Marcellus total remained at 23 and the Utica stayed at 14 rigs. The Barnett remained at one rig.
