New Mexico U.S. Sen. Martin Heinrich accused Energy Secretary Chris Wright of stealing federal funding for “fully legally compliant energy projects.” He’s also getting his state attorney general involved in fighting Wright’s move of cancelling nearly $8 billion in green energy grants.
Heinrich might have some sway in the fight since he is the top Democrat on the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee. He represents what is considered a “blue” state since the legislature is controlled by Democrats and Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham is a Democrat.
Republicans maintained New Mexico and other blue states were rewarded with major green energy project funding when Joe Biden was President. In response to what Secretary Wright did, Heinrich maintained that Wright had “effectively stolen funding for fully legally compliant energy projects.”
