Annexation Raises Questions in Coweta
In a move that has stirred conversation across the state, the City of Coweta City Council approved annexing 193 acres on October 6. The land sits between Highways 72 and 51B, near long-time residents in Wagoner County.
Neighbors are asking one key question: Will the site become a new data center?
Water Use and Data Center Speculation
Several residents voiced concern about what could move in next door. “Because we want to be free of others and enjoy, you know, the deer,” said one resident. “All that’s going to be disrupted.” Meanwhile the city manager, Julie Casteen, admitted the plans remain unclear:
“Someone might look at that and say, ‘Oh my goodness, they’re going to take all our water.’”
“It’s really hard to say without knowing what the plans are yet, but we wouldn’t do something to put the city residents in danger of not having resources. So anything that comes forward will be closely evaluated.”

Data Center Developer Meeting Scheduled
Adding to the speculation, a public information meeting is scheduled on Tuesday evening, October 28. The sponsoring firm: Beale Infrastructure, which describes itself as developing “data centers and infrastructure solutions for the world’s leading technology companies.” This detail strongly suggests the annexed site may head in that direction.
Why This Matters for Oklahoma
Oklahoma is vying to become a hub for high-tech infrastructure. But rapid growth of data centers comes with concerns. Statewide reports show developers often withhold details on water and energy demands, leaving residents and lawmakers uneasy.
For Coweta-area residents, the stakes feel local and high. Access to water. Quality of life. Future zoning. The annexation raises all of these.
What’s Next
The city council must still approve rezoning for the site. Residents are invited to attend the October 28 meeting to get details directly from Beale Infrastructure. Until then the community remains in wait—and Oklahoma watchers are paying close attention.
