Wichita Falls Prepares for Major Data Center Development
One of the latest cities to embrace large-scale technology growth is Wichita Falls, Texas, just across the Red River from Oklahoma. The city’s Economic Development Corporation recently approved selling more than 225 acres of land in its business park to Texas Data Center Campus LLC. Final approval now rests with the Wichita Falls City Council, which will vote on the matter October 7.
Multi-Billion-Dollar Investment Expected
According to the Wichita Falls Times-Record, the project will involve the construction of a hyperscale data center with an investment projected in the billions. Ron Kitchens, CEO of the Wichita Falls Chamber of Commerce, told the paper that construction is expected to begin in early 2026 and will take about two years to complete the first phase.
Kitchens also hinted that the tenant could be one of the industry’s major players: Amazon, Google, Oracle, or Microsoft.
Wichita Falls Data Center Pipeline Expands
The report highlighted that no financial incentives were offered for the current project. However, Kitchens suggested this could be just the beginning, with as many as 11 more data center projects in the pipeline for Wichita Falls.
Last fall, KFDX TV News reported that the city council rezoned land to prepare for a multi-million-square-foot building designed to house a hyperscale data center.
