Western Oklahoma maintains its active oil and gas rig numbers

Over the past week, Oklahoma maintained its rig count, holding steady at 42 oil and gas rigs.

Based on the latest Baker Hughes Rig Count, Oklahoma’s Cana Woodford saw the most activity with 18 rigs.

It was followed by the Granite Wash with 15 rigs, a gain of one compared to a week ago. The area covered by the Granite Wash is approximately 160 miles long and 30 miles wide and stretches into the Texas Panhandle. It varies in depth from 11,000 to 15,400 feet and is 3000 feet thick on average.

The Ardmore Woodford continued with only one active rig and the Arkoma Woodford did the same—one active rig. The Mississippian continued with no reported rig activity, per the Baker Hughes report.

Around the U.S., the Permian Basin remained on top with 254 rigs…the same count as a week ago. The Eagle Ford Count also saw no change with a total of 42 rigs.

The Haynesville stayed at 39 rigs. The Williston continued with 29 total rigs. Elsewhere, the D-J Niobrara added 2 for a total of 11 rigs. The Marcellus continued with 24 and the Utica remained at 13 rigs. The Barnett play in north Texas dropped one rig, leaving only one still active.
