
Oklahomans who are still complaining about the 2021 Winter Storm costs passed along to them by state utilities hit with historic high natural gas prices might have some advice to more than 2 million customers of an Oregon-based utility.
That’s because PacifiCorp, a utility with 2.1 million customers across half a dozen Western states wants federal approval to pass along $1.7 billion in wildfire-related costs onto guess who? Ratepayers.
PacifiCorp, a subsidiary of Berkshire Hathaway Energy, is asking the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission to throw out challenges from several power agencies. The agencies contend the company had not presented evidence to show the costs were reasonable. But PacifiCorp claims its accounting practices were “undoubtedly correct” stemming from liabilities caused by fires in 2020 and 2022.
