Texas refinery makes jet fuel out of Brazilian cattle fat

A refinery in Texas that provides green fuel to U.S. airlines is doing it based on cattle raised on illegally cleared lands in the rainforest of Amazon.

Reuters reported Louisiana-based Diamond Green Diesel creates the green airline fuel from animal fat purchased from two Brazilian manufacturers. The news service reviewed government tracking data and did interviews and eyewitness accounts.

Green Diesel is a joint venture between biofuels producer Darling Ingredients and petroleum refiner Valero Energy. The Company invested hundreds of millions of dollars into a refinery in Port Arthur, Texas, turning the tallow or cattle fat into an alternative to the petroleum-based jet fuel and diesel.
