Sierra Club celebrates Sun Day on Sunday

On Sunday, September 21, In the shade of an impressive solar panel array, with the classic neon Sunshine Laundry marquee in the background, Sierra Club and partners will host a community gathering as part of Sun Day, the first-ever nationwide day of action calling for the large-scale deployment of clean energy that is affordable, reliable and ready to go.

Solar technology continues to advance and is now the cheapest form of electricity generation in history. The event will showcase the businesses, organizations, and individuals that are helping to power our communities with clean, affordable energy.

“Solar and wind are no longer ‘alternative’—they’re the best, the common-sense solutions that are affordable, reliable, and already powering communities across Oklahoma and the nation,” said Kara Joy McKee, Oklahoma Sierra Club Director. “Energy bills hit Oklahomans right in the pocket book, and on Sun Day we’re gathering to show that we have the tools and overwhelming public support to build a clean energy future. Oklahoma is a proud energy state leading this modernization.”

Sun Day is a nationwide mobilization on September 20-21, 2025, celebrating the power of clean energy and mobilizing millions to accelerate the upgrade from fossil fuels. Through thousands of local events like this one, Sun Day aims to demonstrate the overwhelming public support for renewable energy and build momentum for policy changes to remove barriers to its adoption.
