After receiving hundreds of clever and creative snowplow name submissions from K–12 students across the state, the Oklahoma Department of Transportation is turning the final decision over to the public.

Public voting is now open in the Snowplow Naming Contest to decide which names will be assigned to 24 snowplows this winter. Additionally, residents will be able to live-track the virtually-named snowplows at OKSnowPlows.org after the website’s launch on Oct. 27 and watch their favorite name in action as it clears roads across the state!

From Sept. 29 through Oct. 3, 2025, Oklahomans can cast their votes online at OkTraffic.org for their favorite plow names submitted by students. Each of ODOT’s eight field districts selected top finalists and now it is up to the public to help crown the winners.

“ODOT crews work around the clock in winter storms to keep highways safe,” said Caitlyn Carolus, contest manager and ODOT Traffic Operations Center Program Manager. “This contest is a fun way to connect students and families to that mission, while letting Oklahomans put their own stamp on the snowplows they see clearing roads in their communities.”

Key Contest Dates:

  • Public voting: Sept. 29 – Oct. 3
  • Winners announced: Oct. 10
  • Snowplow tracking site launch: Oct. 27

Winning names will be virtually-featured on snowplows serving local communities, added to ODOT’s updated online snowplow tracking map launching Oct. 27 and winning students will receive special recognition and prize packs.

ODOT encourages families, schools and communities to participate in the voting phase and cheer on their local students’ creativity.
