North Dakota follows Oklahoma in studying nuclear power prospects

While the Oklahoma Corporation Commission is in the process of launching a study into the prospects of nuclear power in the state, North Dakota is just exploring the issue in its legislature.

The Oklahoma legislature approved a law requiring state regulators to conduct a study and issue a report to leaders next spring. Legislators in North Dakota also want to get in on the prospect of developing nuclear power in the state, even though the state is one of the top oil-producing states in the U.S.

A recent interim Advanced Nuclear Energy Committee hearing drew the interest of legislators and others alike.

“We’ve got to get in the race,”said one legislator who sits on the committee.
