Nation’s oil and gas rig activity makes major jump

 

 

While the number of oil and gas rigs in Oklahoma held steady over the past week, the U.S. total jumped upward by 7 rigs, reaching a total of 549.

The Baker Hughes Rig Count, released Friday, reported Oklahoma was unchanged this week with 42 active rigs. Nationally, the gain of 7 rigs included an increase of oil rigs by 6 to 424 while the number of gas rigs declined by one to 117. The miscellaneous rig count grew by 2 to 8 while the offshore rig count gained one to reach 14.

This week’s total of 549 rigs nationally compared to 587 one year ago, a decline of 38. The decline over the past year included a loss of 60 oil rigs while there was a gain of 18 gas rigs. The miscellaneous count grew by 4 over the year.

Texas added 4 to reach 246 rigs and New Mexico gained one for a total of 95. North Dakota was unchanged with a rig count of 27. Louisiana’s count increased by one to 37. Colorado was unchanged at 14.

The Red Top Rig Report published by the Independent Oil and Gas Association in Kansas showed the state’s count fell by 4, leaving a dozen active rigs.

Alaska remained at 9 rigs and California continued with a count of 7 rigs. Ohio’s count grew one to 13 rigs while Pennsylvania remained at 18. Utah was unchanged at 10 active rigs. West Virginia remained at 7 and Wyoming continued with 15 total rigs.
