Major bridge replacement project about to begin on I-40 in OKC

Busy west OKC Interstate 40 corridor set for reconstruction

The Oklahoma Department of Transportation is about to begin another major highway project in the state, one involving 150,000 vehicles a day that travel through the area of Interstate 40 and the bridge overpasses of Meridian Avenue and MacArthur Boulevard in Oklahoma City.

The bridges are about to be rebuilt as ODOT addresses what it contends are congestion and safety issues. The agency claims the I-40 corridor where the two overpasses are located is already beyond capacity.

One engineer called the stretch of I-40 a “critical corridor” and explained the two bridges were built in 1966 when the interstate was built across the state.
