Kansas regulators to consider agreement on how to fairly pass data center energy costs to consumers

The Kansas Corporation Commission heard testimony on Evergy rates in June. On Monday, they unanimously approved the company's plan to build new natural gas and solar plants.

Nearly a dozen entities have reportedly reached agreement on the costs to be passed along to ratepayers in Kansas for the construction of data centers and large manufacturing operations.

The Kansas Reflector reported the case involving Evergy Corporation will create a new way to accurately and fairly distribute the costs to consumers and investors. The Kansas Corporation Commission plans an October 8 hear to consider a unanimous settlement agreement created after  consumer, nonprofit and private interest parties worked to reach agreement.

The list of those who signed onto the agreement include the staff of the KCC, Evergy, the Data Center Coalition, the Citizens’ Utility Ratepayer Board, school districts, Google LLC, the Sierra Club, multiple industrial businesses and the National Resources Defense Council.
