House committee to hold hearing into wind tower setbacks

Wind farm setbacks and funding of the Oklahoma Corporation Commission’s Oil and Gas Conservation Division critical mineral strategy will be the focus later this month of an interim hearing to be held by the Oklahoma House Energy and Natural Resources Committee.

Scheduled for Monday, September 29 at 9 a.m. , the hearing will also hear testimony and comments about Industrial Wind and Solar farm setbacks and a study on setbacks and their impact on health safety.

The topic was raised by Rep. Jim Shaw, R-Chandler, a known critic of wind and solar farms in the state. The House Committee hearing will come weeks after a Senate Energy Committee heard testimony in support of renewable energy projects in the state. Some of the testimony opposed setbacks for wind farms.

Later in the day, the committee will explore funding and efficiences of the Corporation Commission Oil and Gas Conservation Division. Rep. Nick Archer (R-Elk City) requested the topic for the interim hearing.

The hearing will conclude with an examination of Oklahoma’s Role in Critical Mineral Strategy, a topic proposed by Rep. Arturo Alonso Sandoval, (D-Oklahoma City).
