Days after he testified before an Oklahoma Senate Energy Committee and spoke of the benefits of renewable energy projects in the state, former Corporation Commissioner Jim Roth said it’s time to balance property rights and energy policy.
He made his declaration to Scott Mitchell on Hot Seat and further claimed that renewable projects in Oklahoma face stricter rules than oil and gas.
Roth cited as an example the call for setbacks from wind and solar projects, a topic he and others testified last week during the Senate Energy Committee hearing led by Sen. Casey Murdock, R-Felt.
“For example, a lot of the proposals out at the legislature for setbacks and even the current law for wind energy. requires a 1.5 nautical setback from public airports, from hospitals, and from schools,” Roth said. “Nothing like that exists on the oil and gas side.”
He also repeated the call he made to the Senators by saying they should be good carpenters, measuring twice and cutting only once.
