The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission has scrapped efforts to make changes in its policy on how it assesses proposed natural gas infrastructure projects.

The decision came after Energy Secretary Chris Wright issued a late August directive for FERC to end the rulemaking process. he said it created uncertainty for the natural gas sector and asked the agency to issue a decision by the end of September.

FERC had already moved in January following the inauguration of President Trump to rescind a related draft policy statement on how the agency would review a project’s effect on the climate reported Utility Dive.

The commission started a look at updating a framework to review gas infrastructure applications beginning in 2018 but faced heavy criticism and pushback from some lawmakers.
