A new child care center in Hinton, one owned by the Caddo Nation, is getting most of its eleccgtricity from solar energy.
The center’s 217 rooftop and carport panels were part of a project first developed by Saku, a joint venture between the tribe and solar firm EightTwenty.
StateImpact Oklahoma reported in The Oklahoman this week that the tribe anticipates a large reduction in its utility costs as a result of the project.
Zackeree Kelin, vice chairman of the Caddo Nation Economic Development Authority explained that “Saku” is the Caddo word for sun and the goal of the project is to power the tribes’ future with solar.
