North Dakota Attorney General Drew Wrigley confirmed he’s been in negotiations with the federal government to settle a yeareslong lawsuit over the costs of the Dakota Access Pipeline protests.
The U.S. government indicated it planned an appeal lof a $28 million judgment handed down this spring by a federal court. Wrigley didn’t offer details in confirming the talks.
The multi-million judgment stemmed from the 2016 major protests against construction of the Dakota Access oil line which crosses under the Missouri River’s Lake Oahe reservoir near the Standing Rock Sioux Reservation.
North Dakota sued the federal government in 2019 contending the demonstrations grew largely because it allowed protesters to its land.
